BOOK DESCRIPTION:

Betrayed By Blood

After losing her fiancé in bust gone wrong, Amaranthine Agent Kaylan Avilion returns home to discover that Elijah didn’t die but instead was changed by the twisted guards of the Order, who seek to find a dangerous artifact tied to Kaylan’s past and the murder of her family. When her sister goes missing and a foe from their past reemerges, Kaylan knows she must save Freya before she’s poisoned by the very people who took Elijah away from her. But how will Kaylan react when she learns Elijah’s secret and can they come together to stop the Order’s plan in time?

Dark Revenge

Darkness is sweeping through the city of Ormere as unnatural creatures stalk through the streets. People are dying and time is running out as a new evil threatens to take control of everything. The Amaranthine Order has been decimated leaving only a few of its people left to fight the coming terror.
Stunned by her sister Freya’s betrayal and plot to take over the city, Kaylan must do everything she can to find out what Freya plans to do when she finds an infamous book linked to the murder of their family. A book considered so dangerous that the last High Lord erased its location from history, the Amaranthine Chronicles are said to contain the darkest of all magics.
Kaylan is happy to finally have her ex-fiancé, Elijah, back in her life but he’s not the man she once knew and loved. After being turned into a shapeshifter, Elijah struggles to control his inner beast and his lingering feelings for Kaylan.
Can Elijah and Kaylan come together to stop Freya and uncover the secrets of the book before it’s too late?

The Final Battle

Darkness has claimed the city of Ormere and death has become a certainty for anyone stalking its empty streets. The government in ruins and lawlessness ensues.
After being dragged back into the past, Kaylan and Elijah barely managed to thwart her sister, Freya’s latest attempts to find and use the elusive Amaranthine Chronicles. But in her desperation to receive ultimate power, Freya will stop at nothing to get what she wants. Even if it means destroying the last of her family.
Kaylan and Elijah must work on their fragile relationship and put their personal feelings aside to find the book and stop Freya before it’s too late. But with their allies growing thin, their best friends both injured and a gang of ruthless shapeshifters close on their trail, will they finally find the book and stop Freya before time runs out? And will Kaylan have to make the ultimate sacrifice to save her city and the man she loves?

The Amaranthine Chronicles Complete Series: Paranormal Romance Box Set: Betrayed By Blood, Dark Revenge, The Final Battle by [Shand, Tiffany]

REVIEW:

I was a fan of Tiffany Shand’s first series, Denai Bound and I wasn’t disappointed with this series at all.
I read all three one right after the other; the novels definitely read more as parts of one whole novel as opposed to three separate which I found myself enjoying as each flowed nicely into the next.
Shand never disappoints when it comes to suspenseful paranormal; I do wish that each novel built a little more on the characters and this world filled with good vs evil, magic, alchemy, and the tug of rope love story simply because I was so drawn in I wanted to know more.
There were some small editing/grammatical errors however were small compared to the overall body of the story.
I love a story where the female lead is a strong on, a woman who can hold her own, and Kaylan Avilion is a woman with a backbone.
I enjoyed how the suspense level remained relatively linear throughout each novel, starting with the return of Kaylan and her reunion with Ethan as her sister goes missing and then in the 2nd novel when the truth comes to light and the search for a book that is a vessel holding dark magic fuels a greed for power and finally in the third when the fight between family and sacrifice, good vs shapeshifters and the ultimate fight for happily ever after.
A capturing and thoroughly enjoyable series from the start.

REVIEW:

Denai Bound I thought was just as good as the first novel in this series.
The way Shand writes in the paranormal sense is incredible and draws you into the story and into a world I could only wish to experience!
I was pulled into the story almost immediately; there was a seamless flow from the first book to the second that didn’t have me asking questions or confused about what may have happened in between. I love romance but I also love paranormal in all genres and I thought there was a nice balance between the two in this book.
I always love how strong Cate is and the relationship between her and Jason. A strong female lead is the be all end all for me and this story had a strong heroin to lead it. I enjoyed getting to know some of the other characters like Jade, Steve and Ian and read how their relationships were starting to build along with how Cate was learning to manage all of the power, both magic and responsibility with her title of GM and Enforcer. I also really liked the the progression of the enemy in this story (not to name names and give anything away!) however I found my emotions evoked with each encounter. Shand did a wonderful job with the mystery behind the evil in this story and really had me guessing as to who could possibly be behind chaos.
Overall I really enjoyed this story – if you’re looking for a magical, suspenseful, romantical, summer read – Denai Bound is the one for you.
*I would definitely recommend that you read Denai Touch (the first in the series) first*

Girl on My Mind: An Odyssey of Sex, Heartbreak, and the Search for True Love – REVIEW

Girl on My Mind: An Odyssey of Sex, Heartbreak, and the Search for True Love

51A-YGU5i+L._SX312_BO1,204,203,200_

BOOK DESCRIPTION:

With a backdrop of wild animals, elephants and the majestic African savannah, safari guide Lincoln never stood a chance when the stunning, enigmatic Natasha walked into camp, flaunting a cheeky smile and capturing Lincoln’s heart for ever. 25 years later, married and middle-aged, he is still haunted by memories of their long-ago blistering affair.

One day, out of nowhere, Natasha reappears. Once more Lincoln finds himself mesmerized and breathless. Obsessed with the possibility of a second chance at true love, he begins a journey that soon threatens to unravel the entire fabric of his current, middle-aged existence.

Part steamy narrative and part contemporary blog, this deeply emotional love story shadows a REAL-LIFE relationship and ACTUAL EVENTS, giving this tortured romantic memoir a depth of authenticity and pathos which few fiction books can match.

‘The Land Rover swung across my front, obscuring my view of the charging elephant. I glanced up, and there was Natasha clutching the steering wheel and shouting for me to climb aboard. I grabbed the handrail and hauled myself to safety just as another tremendous trumpet split the air…
…“I think,” I conceded later, looking her full in the eye, “that I owe you my life.”
She smiled back. “Well, I think that’s being a bit dramatic, don’t you? I’m just really glad you’re safe.” Once again I felt that cool hand on my arm.’

REVIEW

My emotions were all over the place with this story. I thought the backdrop and the character development were fantastic, especially given that this is a novella.
Girl on My Mind was a whirlwind of fantasy, love, heartbreak and a plethora of feelings.
I found myself enjoying the love story that was building in the African heat surrounded by wild animals then becoming completely exasperated and angry. My topsy turvy emotions weren’t because of anything but the behaviour of the characters, which some would say then that Anderton did his job and did it well.
As a lover of romance and the happy ever after, every story I read, I desperately want the ideal I have mapped out in my mind of what that romance means. When that doesn’t happen, its sometimes difficult to wrap my mind around.
I couldn’t help but roll my eyes in exasperation when Lincoln (the main character) becomes increasingly obsessed with the idea of a second chance at his “true love” and willing, without thought, to give up the life he’d created with another woman, his wife. I found myself yelling at my iPad a number of times when he refused to realize the idea of a 2nd chance wasn’t reciprocated (like climbing a mountain of frustration) but also when his years of marriage and family meant nothing in the wake of Natasha.
Overall I liked the length of the novel and the amount of story that the author was able to achieve, I was impressed with the amount of emotion put into the novel as well as the character development. Its clear L T Anderton is an accomplished novelist; Girl on My Mind is a fast read full of lust and love and weighted emotion. Certainly an interesting read, one I was glad I picked up (even if I did want to shake the main character into reality by the end of the story!)

Book Review:

Suspense, romance, paranormal… three of my favourite genres in a novel and Denai Touch didn’t disappoint.
I found myself really getting into the story by the third and fourth chapter to the point I was having trouble putting it down.
I found the concept of this novel extremely intriguing as it went against the grain of a typical paranormal romance. I was drawn into the story, intrigued by the characters and their individuality’s as well as the magnetizing magic that surrounds them, both literal and conceptual. Even though there were a lot of characters (and I found myself re-reading some parts to really understand each one – to no fault of the author) as the story came together, each one was a necessary and integral part of the novel as a whole.
I thoroughly enjoyed the strength written into the female characters in this novel, as much as some of them clashed (which, let’s be honest, conveys out of Magickind and into real life) – the fight Cate shows against both her powers and her love (and *swoon… where can I find me a Jason Talbot?) was both entertaining and entrancing. Truly a good versus evil fight, added in some family drama and a happily ever after… what could be better?
This was my first time reading Tiffany Shand and I have to say, a part of me felt both giddy and impatient at the end of the book reading when the next novel in the series was coming out!

Book Review – Glenn Hates Books Vol. 1: Brutally Honest Book Reviews

Title: Glenn Hates Books Vol. 1: Brutally Honest Book Reviews

Author: Glenn Conley

book cover - glenn hates books

Book Description:

WARNING: There’s a lot of unnecessary profanity in this book.
Why? Because… Because REASONS!

This book contains over 100 brutally honest book reviews. These laugh-out-loud reviews are offensive in every way possible. There’s so much unnecessary profanity, it’s crazy. But it’s not the profanity or offensiveness that makes this book worth reading. It’s the honesty.

You will find 1 star reviews in this book, that absolutely tear the book to shreds, because the book was really that bad. But you will also find 5 star reviews in this book, because the book was actually that good.

It contains reviews of popular books such as Gone Girl, The Giver, The Maze Runner, and many other popular books. Of course, it also includes plenty of books you’ve probably never heard of.

There’s reviews that urge you to read a book, because it’s so good. And also, reviews that warn you to stay the hell away from certain books, because they’re bad. So bad.

In the end, you’ll laugh while reading this book. And cry. And possibly vomit. You’ve been warned.

Book Review:

If you’re into crude humour then Glenn Hates Books Vol. 1 Brutally Honest Book Reviews is for you. It is obscure and comedic and I found myself laughing out loud while reading this book. The raw honesty in each review is proof of Glenn’s passion about his reading choices and it’s palpable in this collection of reviews.

I liked how Glenn has grouped each star rating reviews together – first the 1 of 5 Absolutely-F*#@ing-Terrible Stars, then we move onto the 2 of 5 Makes-My-Head-Hurt Stars, then 3 of 5 Why-Bother Stars and so on until 5 of 5 Must-Read stars! Each section of the book I found myself laughing or grinning at Glenn’s opinions, some I’m not sure I would agree with but that’s the point of a review! I found parts of the book a bit repetitive with profanity and insults but nothing that made me want to throw the book across the room as Glenn found with some of this choices.

“It’s the story of Biff, Jesus’ childhood friend. But of course, Biff calls him ‘Josh’, as you do. The book details the years that were left out of the Bible, the actual childhood of ‘Josh’ and Biff. How they learned kung-fu together. Discovered coffee. Invented sarcasm.”

Glenn Hates Books Vol. 1 Brutally Honest Book Reviews was both hilarious and a little terrifying and it is definitely a book I would recommend if you are looking for raw humour and brutal honesty. After reading Glenn Conley’s book I’m wondering if Glenn really does hate books – his collection of reviews is impressive and makes me wonder if it’s quite the opposite.

Review:

The Phoenix Rising was one of those novels that sucked me in right from the start. The way the main character Kay goes between dream and reality throughout the novel maintained my avid interest to say the least.

There were parts of this book that definitely pulled on my heartstrings with its emotion and relation of the characters. The story took me to places I wasn’t expecting with surprising twists and turns.

The creative imagination the author brings to her story is fascinating as the scenes play out in colourful imagery and with rapt attention I can’t wait for the next novel.
