Girl on My Mind: An Odyssey of Sex, Heartbreak, and the Search for True Love – REVIEW

Girl on My Mind: An Odyssey of Sex, Heartbreak, and the Search for True Love

With a backdrop of wild animals, elephants and the majestic African savannah, safari guide Lincoln never stood a chance when the stunning, enigmatic Natasha walked into camp, flaunting a cheeky smile and capturing Lincoln’s heart for ever. 25 years later, married and middle-aged, he is still haunted by memories of their long-ago blistering affair.

One day, out of nowhere, Natasha reappears. Once more Lincoln finds himself mesmerized and breathless. Obsessed with the possibility of a second chance at true love, he begins a journey that soon threatens to unravel the entire fabric of his current, middle-aged existence.

Part steamy narrative and part contemporary blog, this deeply emotional love story shadows a REAL-LIFE relationship and ACTUAL EVENTS, giving this tortured romantic memoir a depth of authenticity and pathos which few fiction books can match.

‘The Land Rover swung across my front, obscuring my view of the charging elephant. I glanced up, and there was Natasha clutching the steering wheel and shouting for me to climb aboard. I grabbed the handrail and hauled myself to safety just as another tremendous trumpet split the air…
…“I think,” I conceded later, looking her full in the eye, “that I owe you my life.”
She smiled back. “Well, I think that’s being a bit dramatic, don’t you? I’m just really glad you’re safe.” Once again I felt that cool hand on my arm.’

My emotions were all over the place with this story. I thought the backdrop and the character development were fantastic, especially given that this is a novella.
Girl on My Mind was a whirlwind of fantasy, love, heartbreak and a plethora of feelings.
I found myself enjoying the love story that was building in the African heat surrounded by wild animals then becoming completely exasperated and angry. My topsy turvy emotions weren’t because of anything but the behaviour of the characters, which some would say then that Anderton did his job and did it well.
As a lover of romance and the happy ever after, every story I read, I desperately want the ideal I have mapped out in my mind of what that romance means. When that doesn’t happen, its sometimes difficult to wrap my mind around.
I couldn’t help but roll my eyes in exasperation when Lincoln (the main character) becomes increasingly obsessed with the idea of a second chance at his “true love” and willing, without thought, to give up the life he’d created with another woman, his wife. I found myself yelling at my iPad a number of times when he refused to realize the idea of a 2nd chance wasn’t reciprocated (like climbing a mountain of frustration) but also when his years of marriage and family meant nothing in the wake of Natasha.
Overall I liked the length of the novel and the amount of story that the author was able to achieve, I was impressed with the amount of emotion put into the novel as well as the character development. Its clear L T Anderton is an accomplished novelist; Girl on My Mind is a fast read full of lust and love and weighted emotion. Certainly an interesting read, one I was glad I picked up (even if I did want to shake the main character into reality by the end of the story!)

Savage Promise now available!

Some exciting news – SAVAGE PROMISE, book 2 of the Savage Series is NOW AVAILABLE!

I sincerely appreciate your patience with this novel and my, ahem, extended deadlines in this hectic summer, but we got there!

Max Savage scrubbed a hand over his face – damn he was tired. He just had to get through this debrief and then he could go home and fall into his bed. He could almost hear it beckoning him – pillow top. His eyes burned with exhaustion and he couldn’t remember the last time he’d slept in a proper bed. He’d just come back from his third back to back mission and every part of him hurt. His muscles screamed at him for a break but he ignored the pleading and powered through. He knew he needed a break, he was running on fumes but a break was the last thing he wanted. Seven months ago he was the one telling his brother Logan that he needed to slow down when he demanded every mission that came through Savage Security. Now the tables were turned and Max was the one dreading the times everything was still. Because during the calm, his mind would take over and the last place he wanted to be was in his own head. Logan had settled down since he met his fiancée Zoe and Max had gladly stepped into his shoes.

Writing Max and Brie’s story was all I had hoped for and more. Before I had even started writing Max’s story I was already smitten with his charm and mischief. As their story developed, Max and Brie stole my heart as they battled for each other’s and I hope they do the same for you.

I thought I knew Max Savage with his magnetic suave and shit eating grin but as their story developed and secrets were uncovered, SAVAGE PROMISE took even me to places I didn’t realize either one of them possessed. As each of their layers are revealed, so is the danger that threatens to pull them apart before they can come together.

I hope you enjoy reading how Max and Brie turn a hot passionate night into something so much more, as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Warm Wishes & Happy Reading!

Review: Fit To Be Tied (The Mansion, #2) by Leah J. Michaels

#SundayFunday is this novel… if you are looking for a funny, steamy, sexy novel – this one is it!

What’s a man to do when his fantasy walks into the room in a mask, ornate corset, and miniskirt made of feathers? Grab his favorite length of blue silk rope and tie her to his bed.

Mikhail Azarov’s life was sitting at a standstill. His undercover case had finally broken, and he was free of the character he’d been playing for five years. But when you walk in the gutter there’s no way to stay clean. Haunted by the things he’d done, Mikhail had given up the dream of a wife and family. The kind of woman he wanted to be the mother of his children wasn’t attracted to a man covered in tattoos who was rumored to beat his girlfriend. But when Abigail Mallory walks into his arms, all pearls, ribbons, and jeweled, manicured toes, he’ll stop at nothing to keep her.

Well Leah J. Michaels did it again!
I really enjoyed the first novel in this series, The Accidental Submissive and could possibly have fallen further in love with this one.
The characters were wonderfully developed and the passion and romance that bubbled throughout the entire novel was palpable.
I couldn’t put this book down, reading it in one sitting – something about the strong tattooed Azarov that had me exhaling breathy sighs every other page kept me entranced.
I love romance novels that have strong heroines and Abigail Mallory is exactly that, especially when she is standing up to obsessed stalkers – or when has a gun in her hand.
Her friend James, who also works at the Mansion, adds wonderful wit and humor along with the glimpses of Sir and Kitten from the first novel, I found myself laughing out loud with this story.
When Azarov moves into The Mansion to continue his stay under the eyes of his watchdogs after his undercover case had finally broken, he can’t help but keep his eyes off The Mansion’s sexy event planner Abigail. After a couple months of sneaking peeks at each other, Abigail finally falls into his arms and into his bed – tied with a blue rope. Their romance stays the course of hot and heavy even when things take a turn for the worse.
Michaels delivers a wonderful and romantic tale filled with hot and heavy scenes and on top of the steamy panting and heavy muscles, she is able to brilliantly deliver funny and strong characters.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a third novel in this series, can’t wait to read more!

About The Author:

Leah started writing about ten years ago. At the time she was under the misguided conception she was a fantasy fiction writer. After working on that book for seven years and eventually using it to line her kitchen cabinets she took Mark Twain’s advice and decided to write what she knew. She knew romance. She’d been reading them and rewriting the ones she didn’t like since she’d discovered Regency in high school. So now she writes what she loves, runs after her two kids and squeaks every times her husband pinches her ass.

Is it Monday again!? New Week, New Review!

The Accidental Submissive (The Mansion, #1) by Leah J. Michaels

What’s a girl to do when fate hands her a look into her darkest fantasies? Grab on with both hands, both cuffed hands. Karen McGuven’s dangerously curious nature has gotten her into trouble before, but this time she’s hit the mother lode. Kneeling on the auction block she hears the gavel hit and SOLD just as the blood drains from her head. What has she gotten herself into now?

When Steven Edwards looks up and sees an angel kneeling on his auction block, he knows something’s wrong. Because the angel on her knees isn’t the pain kitten the auctioneer is selling. When he rescues her from a sadist, he can’t help but want to keep her for himself.

When she finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation, and possibly hunted by the Russian mob, he takes her under his protection. Keeping her close to keep her safe, he doesn’t even mind as she stumbles into his heart.

When Karen’s boss asks her to personally deliver a package to The Mansion, she finds herself in a heap of trouble including being cuffed and on stage at a BDSM auction. After reading BDSM, Karen finds she is excited to be enthralled in the heart of the community, especially when Steven aka Sir, who calls her Kitten, and with her curious nature how could he call her anything else!, allows her to explore the submissive side of her she had been wanting to experience.
The novel was well written, a story line unlike anything I have read and was happily surprised when I found myself laughing out loud. The BDSM aspect of the novel seems to be the main focus, however for the majority, it is tame yet passionate.
Leah J. Michaels delivered a hot, humorous, erotic romance leaving the reader anticipating book #2.

REVIEW: Blood Roses – Jason T. Graves

Well… it now looks like the spirit of Christmas threw up all over my house. The tree is now trimmed and every surface generally contains some sort of holiday spirit!

Friday night I found myself long into the dark hours of the night hovered over my iPad reading Blood Roses by Jason T. Graves.

Vampires aren’t real… right? If they were, Madeline and Marissa Owen would certainly be suspects: bone-white and night-loving—with a proclivity for super-rare steaks—the identical twins are poster-girls for the undead.

As if looking like teen-aged vampires didn’t cause enough drama, trouble erupts into their lives following a disastrous street fight and a brush with the law by Madeline’s sister. The girls are forced to move from the diverse city of Austin, Texas to the quaint township of Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania—a move clearly designed to bore the aggressive, MMA-fighter Marissa into an early grave.
However, their new lives prove to be anything but boring, as a series of shocking upheavals, unearthed lies, and outright dangers keep them thinking… and running for their lives. Ancient books, coded manuscripts, and evil enemies emerge, challenging the unique skills and inner-strengths of the girls—but can even all of this chaos prepare them for the arrival of real vampires?

Facing threats from multiple quarters, the girls must rely on each other to keep ahead of the rising storm … or be swept away by it.

I found this book to be “okay.” I did enjoy some parts but others I found myself moving onto the next pages where the story lagged. I will admit I can see the appeal – the writing of the novel was well done and very well presented; I’ve read a number of other reviews comparing Jason T. Graves’ writing style to a Dan Brown-esque feel and I would have to agree but for me it just didn’t grab hold the way I wanted it to. I found the story to be more informational rather than action and overdeveloped at times.

For a lot of the novel, the characters would sit around and reminisce and going over old books, diaries, science, etc.

The twins, Madeline and Marissa who are the main characters in this novel realize they have certain “qualities” that attract Wilhelm who is seemingly their “guide” of sorts but truly I didn’t really feel a connection to the characters. I did enjoy some of Marissa’s witty comments and her strong personality as well as Madeline’s brilliant nature and the connection and bond that twins are known for.

When having to move to a different state because of Marissa’s penchant for fighting and their father’s new job the family is at odds with the unhappiness of having to move.

After receiving an old book from Wilhem and experiencing some strange phenomena at their father’s boss’ house – the twins bond together and soon develop their own unique strengths with the help from strange and unique outside forces.

I enjoyed the suspense that was created within the novel and it was definitely a different take on vampires which was enjoyable. I think what irked me most about this book was the amount of information that I didn’t think was necessary – it threw me off and I found myself searching for the next action seen. All in all I think the basis of the story is a great idea – unique and I enjoyed the action and suspense the author provided. What I am unsure of is what the next book in the series is going to involve, i.e who the main characters are going to be, who the series is going to follow, etc.

All in all, I didn’t feel a strong connection to the book or necessarily the characters but I think the overall idea of the story was an interesting one with a unique take on the paranormal and vampires.

Jason T. Graves lives in North Carolina with his family and a menagerie of small, domestic animals. He takes his coffee black, and, when he is not conducting mysterious, mad-scientist experiments with his students, he writes mysterious and beautiful fiction.

Her long, thick black lashes fanned over the sheer golden veil that covered the lower half of her face every time she fluttered her eyelids. Her sultry eyes continued to scan the room searching for her prey as she sat back leisurely against the vibrantly coloured pillows behind her. A crowd of men, a group of mixed species with greedy eyes moved in front of her pedestal, gawking, eating her hungrily with their male presence hoping to be the one chosen.
