Reviews&Rosé: Cynthia Eden – Broken

Okay, I know I’m late to the game with Cynthia Eden (boo, hiss) I know, I know – clearly after reading Broken I now know I was only hurting myself. Because damn this one blew me away. I wasn’t really sure what I was expecting but the emotional roller coaster throughout the entire novel was not it. A lovely surprise, I might add.

giphy

Gabe, founder of LOST, is clearly a dreamboat whose sole purpose is to help people after experiencing what is clearly his own nightmares. We didn’t dive too deep into Dean and Wade but I would put money on it that they are also in their own boats, made of dreams, probably tethered together because romance authors just love to create emotional attachments for their readers to fictional characters. Who needs a real boyfriend when we have Gabe Spencer!?

dating

I loved the character development of Eve–Eden really had me on the edge of my seat as she learned and grew from a scared homeless girl who didn’t know her own name, to a strong, confident heroin. As her story continued and I can honestly say I was stumped with a whodunit until the very end.

The secondary characters had me fascinated–I love a strong female character and Sarah and Victoria fit the bill. Both carried an air of sadness that tugged at my heart-strings but with a collaborative goal at LOST, their badassness showed as they faced danger for a girl who couldn’t remember anything from her past.

The story between Eve and Gabe was a classic one but who doesn’t love one of those–girl in trouble, boy saves girl, girl becomes a strong, independent woman (hell yeah!), love has blossomed and I’m left at the end of the book sad that its over. Where is my wine?

Even though the story had a lot of lust and love and intimacy (which, come on–swoon), it was the suspense and mystery that had me needing to find out what was going to happen next. The story around who it could be was so well done, I tip my hat to Eden and her story-telling.

I always love a good series, but rarely do I pick up the next book on the same day. *Opens up Twisted… oh, hi Dean

Reapers Rival by Simone Elise – REVIEW

Book Description:

The steamy and dramatic sequel to the Best Selling Reaper’s Claim by Simone Elise.

After the events of the first book Abby has joined her half sister’s gang Hellbound. Can Reaper claim her back?

Reaper:
This life gives you regrets on a silver platter. This life makes you colder, and there is a coldness in you now Abby, and I don’t like seeing it. It is what I was trying to protect you from. You always had an innocent heart, but something got inside and messed around with it, and I don’t like it. You can come back from this. Let me take all the bad from you, so you can go back to being you. Ain’t ever gonna stop trying to make you mine.

Abby:
You have to lose yourself to really find yourself. You have to crawl through the dark times to understand and crave the light. And sometimes you need to lose the man you love to realize that what you had in the first place was in fact love. We had a history between us. But more importantly, we had love between us and time doesn’t affect love, or at least I hope it won’t affect our love. Right now I don’t belong anywhere, but I know that no matter what happens or where I am, my heart will always belong to him.

Being together might be dangerous, but outlaws are meant to break the rules.

“Reaper can claim me anytime. This book was completely addicting, the combination of love and danger was smoking hot. Book me a room at Satan’s Sons Clubhouse!” – Felicia T

“The story plot is perfection and if you love bad boys then your sure to love Reaper (Kade). Kade and Abby’s story is a must read for action, drama, and a love story. WARNING: this book can give you major feels!! ” – Kati C.

Review:

I had read this novel before it was separated into 2 parts; the story line relatively stayed the same apart from the large chunk of plot that was added.
I enjoyed how Elise developed Abby’s character further along with some of the others and I thought it flowed well with what had previously happened as opposed to throwing her into something out of left field. I also enjoyed the new character, Daniels, and his and Abby’s ‘relationship’ – it definitely proved for some suspenseful moments.
The new plot addition was definitely seamless and flowed well while adding more dramatics and dynamic to Abby and Reapers love story; it also gave us a glimpse into Reaper’s softer side which I loved. I also really liked how Elise kept the story in tact and didn’t remove much if any of the original version of the story, simply added in some more depth to the independent, strong-willed, bad ass Abby.
I am very much looking forward to the next installment after the frustrating in the best way cliff hanger we’re left with in Reaper’s Rival.

More Than a Slave by Anaelle Gadeyne REVIEW

BOOK DESCRIPTION:

Alexander Anderson has a reputation that would strike fear into the heart of the devil himself. And now, Aria Starbird is his property.

Aria has spent only a few months as a lowly slave, but already her happy childhood memories were starting to fade under the weight of her brutal existence.
When she is sold to Lord Anderson at an auction, she cannot help but be afraid. Lord Anderson is known for his cruelty. He is fiendish and handsome and as wicked as he is wealthy.

However, as she gets to know her new master, she realizes there is more to him than meets the eye. Over time, she is able to penetrate his tough exterior, and begins to understand the struggle of a man who believes love is a weakness, but whose heart is now yearning for something unknown.

As the two let down their walls and discover each other’s truths, will Aria be able to tame Alexander’s inner-beast?

More Than A Slave

REVIEW:

I am a big fan of historical romance novels and this one definitely fits the bill. This was my first time reading Anaelle Gadeyne and her ability to draw the reader into the story is incredible.

Her visualization through description was amazing and at times I felt like I was actually there. I will say that there is a lot of violence and brutality in this novel, a lot of the times making me wince however I can understand that it was there to set the scene for the story. I loved the romance between Aria and Alexander how it grew from a lashing in the square into something beautiful. I loved the growth and change of each character through the strength of Aria Starbird and her sharp tongue. Her entire story broke my heart but it was her feminine pride and backbone of steel that I truly admired. I also really enjoyed the little snippets we got to see of the secondary characters and their romances as well, it really complimented the story line.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, I was pulled in from the very beginning. I was a little disappointed with how it ended simply because it was a little abrupt and I wanted to know more about Aria and Alexander’s happily ever after.

I laughed and I certainly cried (a few times) the emotions in this novel are very real and Gadeyne had me feeling all of the feels.

Spectra by Ebony Olsen – Review

BOOK DESCRIPTION:

One touch of Spectra’s fingers leaves the predator Bay craving more.

Spectra is a Balance; a decedent of angels whose soul has been intertwined with that of sorcerer Alexander, although her heart belongs to Mercury, the son of an archangel.
Bay is a predator de Sang and sorcerer, who runs his own private security company, fighting the purist organization Essence. Seeking out Spectra for her special abilities the last thing he expected to find was a Balance strong enough to withstand his potent energy. With her heart and soul already claimed, could there be room for another in her life?

When Bay’s infatuations bring Spectra to the attention of Essence and put her life at risk, he must learn that sometimes sacrificing the ones you love is the only way to save them.

Spectra

REVIEW:

I love a novel that allows the reader to see a glimpse into the author’s mind blowing imagination and Spectra did exactly that.
This novel involves two of my favourite things, paranormal and romance. With sorcerers and magic, angels and ghosts I found it difficult to put this book down.
This was the first time I’d read Ebony Olsen and I was impressed with the story overall as well as the development of the characters. I enjoyed the different points of view, an essential part I felt to this novel. I especially liked the secondary characters and their story lines – Calin and his wives (especially Gina – love Gina!), Luke and his son, and the taboo drama that encircled them.
I enjoyed how Spectra was a strong female lead – in the beginning I wasn’t so sure given her relationship with Alexander but as her story continued to develop she turned out to be the heroin I wanted her to be. While I wanted there to be a bit more of an elaboration when it came to Spectra and some of her past as well as her current relationships, I found that overall the story was intense and passionate and I loved the non-traditional relationships that made up this book.
I found myself immediately drawn into this paranormal world that Olsen has created – curiosity, heartbreak, lust, love, secrecy – all an integral part of Spectra.
A great paranormal, an easy read, a magical (pun intended) story.

Reaper’s Claim by Simone Elise

BOOK DESCRIPTION:

In my motorcycle club I’ve earned the name ‘Reaper’ and now I have my claim on Abby Harrison.

Reaper:
I didn’t know what love was, but I knew what want was, and I wanted Abby. When I walked out of the club and saw her I was stone cold sober. She was quietly beautiful and unlike any other woman I’d had before. But she was the daughter of the president of Satan’s Sons MC and completely out of my reach.

Abby:
Everyone knew The Reaper and how he got his name, so I never expected him to be my salvation when my sisters drunk boyfriend wanted to lay hands on me. I thought my innocence would be lost in that alley, until he showed up and saved me. I know being with Reaper will lead to trouble, but I don’t know if I have the strength to stay away.

Being together might be dangerous, but outlaws are meant to break the rules.

Reaper's Claim

REVIEW:

A slew of leather vests, tattoos, an MC and a fight for love… Give me a motorcycle club romance and I am a smitten kitten.

I was immediately pulled into this novel, the first I’ve read by Simone Elise. The author did a great job of drawing the readers attention instantly and I was hooked. This novel definitely has the bones of a well thought out motorcycle club romance and I found myself not being able to put it down. I was surprised at the length originally and I found that there were parts the author could have omitted but all in all I really enjoyed the overall story. I found myself yelling at my iPad a few times and felt my heart break along with the smiles and joy throughout this emotional roller coaster.

I loved the star-crossed lovers story and the way Kade and Abby’s romance started out made me fall in love with the characters even more. Kade is one sexy biker and Abby is a gorgeous ball of sass and together they are explosive in the best kind of way. The secondary characters were just as frustrating and charming – Kim, Roach Trigger and Brad. Ah, Brad, the sweetest, rough and tough biker had me swooning. That explosiveness turns into danger and I enjoyed how Elise merged the two into a riveting story line.

I will tell you that I was so shocked that I couldn’t turn any more pages and the cliffhanger Simone Elise leaves you with is maddening in the best way. I will be waiting for the next novel… in the meantime, I’m off to find me a Reaper.

Sunday Brunch – The Victory Lap

great-lakes

“Gentle reminder, it’s not a walk of shame if you stop for brunch on the way” – the internet (so it must be true.)

The morning after. We’ve all had that nightmare of a moment where you open your eyes and you don’t recognize the ceiling, or the uncomfortable mattress you’re currently laying on, you don’t even recognize the limp arm draped across your chest or the snoring that’s coming from beside you. It was probably during those two slutty years of college, or… last weekend. You don’t want to look, you want to close your eyes and hope that the Sandman is playing one of his nasty tricks again.

giphy2

But you know in your heart of hearts, that last night after what should have been your last gin and tonic, your alter ego Mercedes made an appearance and took home this fine fella, who, after you look him over you realize, eh, you’ve done worse. He’s probably a gentleman and would open your car door for you should he ever take you out on a date (chivalry, lol!) But you know what this means, Mercedes left you lookin a mess, like your closest relative is the raccoon digging through the dumpster out back.

giphy3

Luckily that skanky bitch (aka drunk you) didn’t pack your bag and you learned your lesson after the fifth (-teenth) time you had to walk home in your stilettos and a pair of his basketball shorts. Sliding out from under the clammy fingers trying to grope you even in his sleep (gentleman, remember?) you start picking up the trail of scattered clothes like they’re breadcrumbs you left yourself the night before. After you get over the initial terror that is looking back at you in the bathroom mirror, you wash your face with a questionable bar soap and throw your hair up with the single hair tie in your purse. Stealing one of his oversized t shirts you tie it in a cute knot at your hip and pull on your black spanx, the ones without the pee hole because they can actually pass for workout shorts – and who just went to the gym? You did! (damn girl, you healthy AF). Rolling up your outfit from the night before you shove it into your purse (yes, its small enough that it can fit in there) and you leave your prince charming (does anyone remember what his name is?) to start your very respectable “I got laid” parade knowing your mother will never be proud of you. But you still cute though!

Sunday Brunch – Boy Bye

great-lakes

“Gentle reminder, it’s not a walk of shame if you stop for brunch on the way” – the internet (so it must be true.)

Once upon a time you hooked up with a fuckboy. It happens, no judgements. And then there was a full moon, or Aries entered Mercury or maybe you’re horoscope told you someone from your past was going to come back into your life – romantically. And there he was again… the fuckboy. But this time, he was different, he took you out on a date… A REAL DATE, like out in public, with other people around (WHAT!?) And then that date turned into two and then three and then next thing you know his shit is in your house, as in permanently. How did this happen? Fast forward one fight, then two and then you break up with him… because he will always be a fuckboy (it’s in his DNA or he’s just an asshole, whatever) and then he leaves and you finally get your blessed 2nd toothbrush space back (like that space is for important people, as in not you).

giphy

A few months later you’re perusing the mall, minding your own damn business when you see him. And you try to run or hide or be someone else, but alas, lady luck is not on your side today. So you smile and wave and oh there she is, the skank of the week threading her arm through his. Cue awkward small talk and the silent desperation to be anywhere but here because his attempt at showcasing Brittney who looked like she just finished her shift on the pole is starting to seriously piss you off.

tumblr_nbgsntetsz1sspzn6o1_500

The next day your phone rings – a number you don’t recognize. After answering, you realize why you don’t answer calls from numbers you don’t know. Its him, he wants to know if you still have his black hoodie. Obviously not (LOL turns around in mirror admiring said black hoodie. It looks better on you anyways.) And then he says the words because his ego can’t take whatever bullshit he thinks he heard, “Seriously, it’s been like a year, I think it’s time you got over it. I’ve moved on, maybe you should too.” You bite your tongue against telling him about the multiple O’s from the man who just left your bed that morning, a foot taller, built like a god and trumped his pencil dick in every way possible.

pity

Naturally you decide to be the bigger person. Maybe. Maybe not. Because how the hell else are you supposed to deal with Satan’s biological son? In the nicest way possible you tell him his only real promise at a relationship will be with someone who’s not actually sure if she wants a boyfriend or if she’s really just hungry and has high hopes for change. So thanks for the memories but you need to leave… like my life… like forever. Because sweetheart, I am SO over you.

Sunday Brunch – The Delusional Dater

great-lakes

“Gentle reminder, it’s not a walk of shame if you stop for brunch on the way” – the internet (so it must be true.)

Aloof; calm, cool and collected, put down the phone. These are the things you keep repeating to yourself over and over because you just had the best sex of your life and now he’s leaving and you don’t want him to leave, you want him to stay… forever. And ever. But you can’t say that, you can’t even allude to it because that would make you bat shit crazy, and he doesn’t need to see that side of you… yet. So as he slings on his jacket, you subtly sniff the air around him just to get one last smell of that delicious cologne that shredded your panties, you smile at him and thank him for the great night. Aloof, calm, cool and collected.

vejog

You lay in bed with a smile on your face as you start to map out your future with Mr. Right (now) and you can’t wait for your 2nd date. He hasn’t asked you on a 2nd date yet, but you know its coming, it has to be coming, this night was just too perfect. You send a message to your group chat of best girlfriends and tell them all about your date and that you’ve found the one. THE ONE.

dating

The next day you consider deleting your Tinder because why would you need it anymore? His text still hasn’t come but it will, you know it will. You scroll through his photos again with a wistful sigh as you plan out how the holidays are going to work, will he come over for Thanksgiving? You want him to meet your mom, she will love him.

You keep this mindset until your best friend comes over and slaps you out of your delusional fog of bullshit and makes you realize he’s just another fuckboy (who still hasn’t text you) who gave you a great orgasm. She tells you orgasms are great but fuckboys aren’t. ‘The One’ and fuckboy are not words you put in a sentence together, the only word that should go with a fuckboy is BYE.
