REVIEW:

This was the first novel I’d read by Theresa Jane and I wasn’t disappointed. I love romance novels where the girl is able to tame the bad boy but unlike some other cliche stories, I found this one held my attention from the start.

I really enjoyed how Freya had her own set of issues that were just as on par if not more than Liam the famous rock star. Definitely some ups and quite few heart tugging downs in this novel – it was emotional as much as it was a hopeful romance. I love it when a writer can make you just feel and Jane did exactly that.

Each character was well developed and I enjoyed the story lines between each one – the back and forth pull between Freya and her brother was realistic as much as it was heartbreaking. There were times when I was frustrated with the characters – I mean, just say NO when your brother gambles you away! and Freya was at times a bit of a brat while Liam was an asshole but it all added to the story and where would we be without that very first poker game? By far my favourite character in the novel was Davis… that kid is going places.

I wouldn’t hesitate to pick up a Theresa Jane novel in the future; Beastly Lights was definitely a topsy turvy roller-coaster of emotions under the spotlight of the world.

Reapers Rival by Simone Elise – REVIEW

Book Description:

The steamy and dramatic sequel to the Best Selling Reaper’s Claim by Simone Elise.

After the events of the first book Abby has joined her half sister’s gang Hellbound. Can Reaper claim her back?

Reaper:
This life gives you regrets on a silver platter. This life makes you colder, and there is a coldness in you now Abby, and I don’t like seeing it. It is what I was trying to protect you from. You always had an innocent heart, but something got inside and messed around with it, and I don’t like it. You can come back from this. Let me take all the bad from you, so you can go back to being you. Ain’t ever gonna stop trying to make you mine.

Abby:
You have to lose yourself to really find yourself. You have to crawl through the dark times to understand and crave the light. And sometimes you need to lose the man you love to realize that what you had in the first place was in fact love. We had a history between us. But more importantly, we had love between us and time doesn’t affect love, or at least I hope it won’t affect our love. Right now I don’t belong anywhere, but I know that no matter what happens or where I am, my heart will always belong to him.

Being together might be dangerous, but outlaws are meant to break the rules.

“Reaper can claim me anytime. This book was completely addicting, the combination of love and danger was smoking hot. Book me a room at Satan’s Sons Clubhouse!” – Felicia T

“The story plot is perfection and if you love bad boys then your sure to love Reaper (Kade). Kade and Abby’s story is a must read for action, drama, and a love story. WARNING: this book can give you major feels!! ” – Kati C.

Review:

I had read this novel before it was separated into 2 parts; the story line relatively stayed the same apart from the large chunk of plot that was added.
I enjoyed how Elise developed Abby’s character further along with some of the others and I thought it flowed well with what had previously happened as opposed to throwing her into something out of left field. I also enjoyed the new character, Daniels, and his and Abby’s ‘relationship’ – it definitely proved for some suspenseful moments.
The new plot addition was definitely seamless and flowed well while adding more dramatics and dynamic to Abby and Reapers love story; it also gave us a glimpse into Reaper’s softer side which I loved. I also really liked how Elise kept the story in tact and didn’t remove much if any of the original version of the story, simply added in some more depth to the independent, strong-willed, bad ass Abby.
I am very much looking forward to the next installment after the frustrating in the best way cliff hanger we’re left with in Reaper’s Rival.

More Than a Slave by Anaelle Gadeyne REVIEW

BOOK DESCRIPTION:

More Than A Slave

REVIEW:

I am a big fan of historical romance novels and this one definitely fits the bill. This was my first time reading Anaelle Gadeyne and her ability to draw the reader into the story is incredible.

Her visualization through description was amazing and at times I felt like I was actually there. I will say that there is a lot of violence and brutality in this novel, a lot of the times making me wince however I can understand that it was there to set the scene for the story. I loved the romance between Aria and Alexander how it grew from a lashing in the square into something beautiful. I loved the growth and change of each character through the strength of Aria Starbird and her sharp tongue. Her entire story broke my heart but it was her feminine pride and backbone of steel that I truly admired. I also really enjoyed the little snippets we got to see of the secondary characters and their romances as well, it really complimented the story line.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, I was pulled in from the very beginning. I was a little disappointed with how it ended simply because it was a little abrupt and I wanted to know more about Aria and Alexander’s happily ever after.

I laughed and I certainly cried (a few times) the emotions in this novel are very real and Gadeyne had me feeling all of the feels.

Spectra by Ebony Olsen – Review

Spectra

REVIEW:

I love a novel that allows the reader to see a glimpse into the author’s mind blowing imagination and Spectra did exactly that.
This novel involves two of my favourite things, paranormal and romance. With sorcerers and magic, angels and ghosts I found it difficult to put this book down.
This was the first time I’d read Ebony Olsen and I was impressed with the story overall as well as the development of the characters. I enjoyed the different points of view, an essential part I felt to this novel. I especially liked the secondary characters and their story lines – Calin and his wives (especially Gina – love Gina!), Luke and his son, and the taboo drama that encircled them.
I enjoyed how Spectra was a strong female lead – in the beginning I wasn’t so sure given her relationship with Alexander but as her story continued to develop she turned out to be the heroin I wanted her to be. While I wanted there to be a bit more of an elaboration when it came to Spectra and some of her past as well as her current relationships, I found that overall the story was intense and passionate and I loved the non-traditional relationships that made up this book.
I found myself immediately drawn into this paranormal world that Olsen has created – curiosity, heartbreak, lust, love, secrecy – all an integral part of Spectra.
A great paranormal, an easy read, a magical (pun intended) story.

Reaper’s Claim by Simone Elise

BOOK DESCRIPTION:

In my motorcycle club I’ve earned the name ‘Reaper’ and now I have my claim on Abby Harrison.

Reaper:
I didn’t know what love was, but I knew what want was, and I wanted Abby. When I walked out of the club and saw her I was stone cold sober. She was quietly beautiful and unlike any other woman I’d had before. But she was the daughter of the president of Satan’s Sons MC and completely out of my reach.

Abby:
Everyone knew The Reaper and how he got his name, so I never expected him to be my salvation when my sisters drunk boyfriend wanted to lay hands on me. I thought my innocence would be lost in that alley, until he showed up and saved me. I know being with Reaper will lead to trouble, but I don’t know if I have the strength to stay away.

Being together might be dangerous, but outlaws are meant to break the rules.

Reaper's Claim

REVIEW:

A slew of leather vests, tattoos, an MC and a fight for love… Give me a motorcycle club romance and I am a smitten kitten.

I was immediately pulled into this novel, the first I’ve read by Simone Elise. The author did a great job of drawing the readers attention instantly and I was hooked. This novel definitely has the bones of a well thought out motorcycle club romance and I found myself not being able to put it down. I was surprised at the length originally and I found that there were parts the author could have omitted but all in all I really enjoyed the overall story. I found myself yelling at my iPad a few times and felt my heart break along with the smiles and joy throughout this emotional roller coaster.

I loved the star-crossed lovers story and the way Kade and Abby’s romance started out made me fall in love with the characters even more. Kade is one sexy biker and Abby is a gorgeous ball of sass and together they are explosive in the best kind of way. The secondary characters were just as frustrating and charming – Kim, Roach Trigger and Brad. Ah, Brad, the sweetest, rough and tough biker had me swooning. That explosiveness turns into danger and I enjoyed how Elise merged the two into a riveting story line.

I will tell you that I was so shocked that I couldn’t turn any more pages and the cliffhanger Simone Elise leaves you with is maddening in the best way. I will be waiting for the next novel… in the meantime, I’m off to find me a Reaper.

REVIEW:

I was thoroughly impressed with Charlie Vincent’s novel – my first time reading Vincent, I wasn’t sure what to expect and was pleasantly surprised.
While it is a lengthy novel, there was at no point that I felt it dragging or lacking in any way nor did it feel its length – I found I was so intrigued all I wanted was more. The characters in this novel are very well developed and I enjoyed the different points of view – Adam, Charles and Maman, Sabine… The characters and their plot lines were very well organized as is the research that obviously went into the historical scenes and I found myself being drawn to each one.

“My body is written with the violence of men like you. Men who have fallen. Men who’ve been buried for centuries.”

And while the main plot of the novel is a serious one, I sincerely enjoyed some of the laugh out loud moments Vincent weaved through. Especially Yan and his feminine legs!
The detail and description of the novel were wonderfully intense, from the moment I started reading I was immediately drawn into Adam’s world and while a story such as this, with such a historic character can be a difficult character to write without leaning toward the side of cheesy, Vincent did a magnificent job with both character and plot. There is heroics, violence, humour, and a little bit of everything in between. I was continuously engaged and thoroughly entertained throughout the entirety of this book.
I love Vincent’s writing style and will definitely be reading more.

The Amaranthine Chronicles Complete Series: Paranormal Romance Box Set: Betrayed By Blood, Dark Revenge, The Final Battle by [Shand, Tiffany]

REVIEW:

I was a fan of Tiffany Shand’s first series, Denai Bound and I wasn’t disappointed with this series at all.
I read all three one right after the other; the novels definitely read more as parts of one whole novel as opposed to three separate which I found myself enjoying as each flowed nicely into the next.
Shand never disappoints when it comes to suspenseful paranormal; I do wish that each novel built a little more on the characters and this world filled with good vs evil, magic, alchemy, and the tug of rope love story simply because I was so drawn in I wanted to know more.
There were some small editing/grammatical errors however were small compared to the overall body of the story.
I love a story where the female lead is a strong on, a woman who can hold her own, and Kaylan Avilion is a woman with a backbone.
I enjoyed how the suspense level remained relatively linear throughout each novel, starting with the return of Kaylan and her reunion with Ethan as her sister goes missing and then in the 2nd novel when the truth comes to light and the search for a book that is a vessel holding dark magic fuels a greed for power and finally in the third when the fight between family and sacrifice, good vs shapeshifters and the ultimate fight for happily ever after.
A capturing and thoroughly enjoyable series from the start.

Sunday Brunch – The Victory Lap

great-lakes

“Gentle reminder, it’s not a walk of shame if you stop for brunch on the way” – the internet (so it must be true.)

The morning after. We’ve all had that nightmare of a moment where you open your eyes and you don’t recognize the ceiling, or the uncomfortable mattress you’re currently laying on, you don’t even recognize the limp arm draped across your chest or the snoring that’s coming from beside you. It was probably during those two slutty years of college, or… last weekend. You don’t want to look, you want to close your eyes and hope that the Sandman is playing one of his nasty tricks again.

giphy2

But you know in your heart of hearts, that last night after what should have been your last gin and tonic, your alter ego Mercedes made an appearance and took home this fine fella, who, after you look him over you realize, eh, you’ve done worse. He’s probably a gentleman and would open your car door for you should he ever take you out on a date (chivalry, lol!) But you know what this means, Mercedes left you lookin a mess, like your closest relative is the raccoon digging through the dumpster out back.

giphy3

Luckily that skanky bitch (aka drunk you) didn’t pack your bag and you learned your lesson after the fifth (-teenth) time you had to walk home in your stilettos and a pair of his basketball shorts. Sliding out from under the clammy fingers trying to grope you even in his sleep (gentleman, remember?) you start picking up the trail of scattered clothes like they’re breadcrumbs you left yourself the night before. After you get over the initial terror that is looking back at you in the bathroom mirror, you wash your face with a questionable bar soap and throw your hair up with the single hair tie in your purse. Stealing one of his oversized t shirts you tie it in a cute knot at your hip and pull on your black spanx, the ones without the pee hole because they can actually pass for workout shorts – and who just went to the gym? You did! (damn girl, you healthy AF). Rolling up your outfit from the night before you shove it into your purse (yes, its small enough that it can fit in there) and you leave your prince charming (does anyone remember what his name is?) to start your very respectable “I got laid” parade knowing your mother will never be proud of you. But you still cute though!
